Wright returns to Boston United

26th July 2019

Striker Jake Wright has today joined Vanarama National League North side Boston United on a loan deal until January 4.

Wright, 22, previously spent a month on loan with the Pilgrims in March and scored two goals in four appearances.

Manager Steve Watson said: "We have had a chat with Jake. We have strengthened up-front by bringing Dan Maguire in. We have re-signed Macaulay Langstaff and Alex Kempster and we have also got Jordan Burrow. It was going to be quite tough for Jake to get as many minutes as he needed.

"He went away to Boston last season and did well and they enjoyed him being there - but he still remains our player and he is young. Hopefully, he can go there and play more than he would here and get the confidence back and then we will address it again in January.

"It might well be a case that he comes back flying and he plays the rest of the season with us?" Watson added. "Or it might be a case that he decides to make the Boston move permanent? Either way, I think it is the right thing for both parties at this moment."

Former Sheffield United and Gateshead striker Wright scored five goals in 28 appearances for City last season following a summer move from North Yorkshire neighbours Harrogate Town.

*The deal is subject to approval from the Football Association and National League and Wright is not permitted to play against the Minstermen during the period of his loan.
