Winning start for City youngsters

By Ian Appleyard | 13th September 2018

City's youngsters opened the National League Under-19 Alliance campaign with a 3-2 home win over Frickley Athletic at Wigginton Road yesterday afternoon.

Goals from Nathan Dyer and Kiari Ventura gave City a 2-1 interval lead before midfielder Isaas Overton added the third in the second half.

It was the second victory in the space of a week for City following their 3-1 success at Handsworth Parramore in the preliminary round of the FA Youth Cup.

Head of Youth Dan Wilson said: "We controlled the game well and created a lot of chances. We could have been two or three nil up at halftime but let them back in with a couple of mistakes. We were never dominated in the game and we can control those mistakes in future."

The boys are back in FA Youth Cup action on Monday night away at Tadcaster Albion in a first qualifying round tie (kick-off 7.45pm).

City (V Frickley): Teale; Dyer (D.Jackson 32, Henderson 70), Cawthorn (Stuart 60), Watson, Jebson-King; W.Jackson, Overton, R.Harrison (Whitfield 65); A.Harrison, Ventura, Haigh (Binsley 80).
