Winger Wes relishing the challenge

By Ian Appleyard | 5th July 2018

Summer signing Wes York believes City will be the club everyone wants to beat again this season in Vanarama National League North.

Winger York is set to make his first appearance for City in Saturday's opening pre-season friendly of the summer at Shildon AFC (kick-off 12.30pm).

"Every game is going to be a challenge, everyone is going to try beat us," he said. "We are going to be the club to beat this year - just like last year - and I think we have got to take that challenge and go from there."

One of four summer signings from Vanarama National League side Gateshead, York, 25, says pre-season training has been 'tough' but enjoyable over the last eight days.

"It's been really tough but I have really enjoyed it so far. He is putting us through our paces but we are enjoying working hard - which you don't get very often in pre-season! No-one is moaning, we are just putting our heads down and getting on with it.

"The main thing is we are gelling very quickly," he added. "You need to gel together. If you don't, you can see it on the pitch."
