Watson's post-match verdict

14th April 2019

Manager Steve Watson praised City's performance following Saturday's 2-2 draw at Chester in Vanarama National League North.

Midfielders Adriano Moke and Paddy McLaughlin scored City's goals but defensive lapses allowed Chester a share of the spoils.

"I thought we were the better team," said Watson. "The goals we scored were well-crafted, the chances we had first half were a lot more clear cut than anything they created all game, we just made two bad errors. That's all it is. Two mistakes cost us and it's a bitter pill to swallow.

"It was a good away performance. Take the two mistakes away and we win comfortably. I should be standing here talking about three points," he added.

"It's difficult to go in the dressing room - when they haven't played badly or made many bad decisions - and have a go at them," he said.

"We are trying to progress," he added. "I think that's one defeat in 10 games and I think we have come a decent way since I got here. Chester are a team who are above us and we came and really proved at times that we are more than a match if not looked better than them."
