Watson's post-match verdict

By Ian Appleyard | 31st March 2019

Manager Steve Watson reflected on Saturday's 1-1 draw at Guiseley in Vanarama National League North.

City led for the majority of the game thanks to midfielder Paddy McLaughlin's first goal since his return to the club but Kingsley James equalised late on for Guiseley.

The result lifts City up to 13th position in the table but ten points adrift of the play-off zone with only five more games to play.

"It was a game of two halves again. The first half may have been the best since I have been here. Unfortunately, we allowed ourselves to get sucked into the way they played in the second half.

"It's an away point against a team fighting for their lives but, on reflection, we all know it should have been another three points.

"I used the play-offs to try and motivate me and everybody else around the club but we have to be realistic about where we have come from," he added. "The first two games I was here, we were five points off the relegation zone. It was always going to be tough - but that has to be a motivation and, while it is still possible, we’ll give it everything we can."
