VIDEO: Watson on latest arrival

25th June 2019

Manager Steve Watson is delighted with the capture of AFC Fylde midfielder Andy Bond and hopes to sign another 'big character' before the end of the week.

Speaking to the club website this afternoon, Watson spoke of the growing competition for midfield places at Bootham Crescent and praised the qualities of his latest new arrival.

"We have got a good mix in midfield now," said Watson, who has already signed midfield duo Paddy McLaughlin and Kieran Green from Hartlepool and Blyth, respectively, this summer.

"Greeny has youth on his side and very good potential and we know all about Paddy and (Adriano) Moke who have been in this league a long time - but Bondy is something a little bit different to the rest," he said.

"He's played a lot of games at higher levels than this. It's took a little while - because there was more than us wanted to try and get his signature this summer - but he's a player who has got a goal in him, who can go beyond, and who is very hungry and, despite his age, he has got a very good engine. He's very driven and focused on the same things that we all are - which is, hopefully, trying to get out of this league.

"There is good competition for places now which is exactly what I want," Watson added. "There looks to be a fair bit of balance there now and we have got mixture of styles and characters - and by the end of this week, we hope to add one more big character. Touch wood, we should have one more signing this week and then I don't think I will need a lot more before pre-season."
