VIDEO: Steve Watson interview

28th March 2019

Steve Watson has revealed that veteran defender David Mirfin could be sidelined for the rest of the season after signing teenager Jasper Moon from League One club Barnsley.

Mirfin, who is on loan from Mansfield Town, missed Tuesday's 3-3 draw at FC United of Manchester due to a knee problem.

Speaking to the official club website this afternoon, City manager Watson said: "Unfortunately, I don't think David is going to be able to play much of a part again this season which is really bad news.

"We are having a look at a young lad from Barnsley. I have seen him play in the 23s. He is really young but he is being groomed for their first team and it might be something beneficial for both teams. I am also looking towards next season and potential season-long loans so it could be a good fit."

Today was the deadline for signings in Vanarama National League North and Watson said: "We also looked at three or four forward opportunities. We are not 'short' but I just thought it would be a good opportunity - at the end of the season - to look at two or three younger players where there might be an opportunity for season-long loans and just create relationships with good clubs - the likes of Barnsley who are flying this season and we will see what comes of it?"

City visit Yorkshire neighbours Guiseley AFC on Saturday afternoon in (kick-off 3pm)
