VIDEO: Micky Cummins interview

18th July 2019

Assistant-manager Micky Cummins looks ahead to Saturday's game against North Yorkshire neighbours Scarborough Athletic at Bootham Crescent (kick-off 1pm) and reflects on Wednesday's victory over Hartlepool United.

"It will be tough, being a derby," he said. "We played them in the North Riding Cup last year - when they were up for it and we were up for it - and they gave us problems.

"It's an opportunity to get minutes into the lads who didn't start on Wednesday night and lads coming back from injury," he added.

"It will be a tough one - but we are really looking forward to it," he said. "Again, their style of play will be 'in our faces' - similar to what we are going to be up against this season."

Summer signing Dan Maguire bagged his first pre-season goal in City's 2-1 victory over Hartlepool and Cummins said: "He's come from a full-time job - playing part-time football - into full-time football which is (more) physically demanding. But he's done really well, trained well, and he is looking sharp. The more minutes he gets on the pitch will only benefit him and it was nice for him to score. That's where he gets his goals - in around the penalty area and the six yard box."

Cummins also revealed that a decision has yet to be made on the club captaincy for next season.
