VIDEO: Cummins on player deals

7th May 2019

Assistant-manager Micky Cummins has welcomed the news that midfielder Adriano Moke and defender Joe Tait are staying at the club next season.

Both players have agreed to sign new deals with the club today after impressing Cummins and manager Steve Watson.

"These two guys are players that we feel will drive us forward next season," said Cummins. "We gave them clean slates and they took their opportunity.

"Moke made an indifferent start - and was in-and-out of our starting XI - but I think he had a real strong finish to the season. In the last few games, he was a driving force with his energy and his ability to get around the pitch.

"Taity probably hasn't had the minutes on the pitch that he deserved," he added. "In terms of his character, he is the type who will drive things and create a good vibe and atmosphere at the training ground and in the changing room.  They are the both the type of guys who will react to competition next season."

Goalkeeper Adam Bartlett, meanwhile, has rejected the opportunity to sign a new deal and is quitting professional football to embark on a career outside of the game.

Bartlett, 33, joined City from Darlington in November 2017 and made 70 consecutive appearances before making way for teenager Ryan Whitley at the start of April.

Cummins said: "We would have liked Adam to stay but we also respect his decision to move on and focus on a new career."
