Striker Jake Wright returns to City

By Ian Appleyard | 12th June 2018

Striker Jake Wright has today joined York City on a two-year deal after leaving neighbours Harrogate Town.

Wright, 21, scored six goals last season as Harrogate won promotion from Vanarama National League North via the play-offs.

He previously played for City two seasons ago - making seven appearances during a loan spell from Sheffield United.

Wright also played on loan for Southport and Gateshead during the 2016-17 season before joining Harrogate, initially on loan, in September 2017.

He completed a permanent transfer to Harrogate in March but rejected the opportunity to extend his stay this summer.

Manager Martin Gray said: "He has won a promotion and had a taste of success which is important. I did a lot of work at the back end of the season, collating as much information as possible from Sheffield United, and he comes with a glowing reference.

"He caught the eye against us last season and scored in the game at Bootham Crescent. He has good energy, his all-round game is good, and he is a great finisher. His goals-to-game ratio with Harrogate last season was very high.

"He has turned Harrogate down to come here which is great," added Gray. "I hope he has a great season and helps get us where we need to go."
