Remembering the WWII heroes

On the 74th anniversary of D-Day, the club remembers all former players who gave their lives in service during the Second World War.

Sgt Geoffrey Reynolds, Sgt Albert Edward Bonass, Sgt Leonard Milner, Private Samuel Grenville Roberts, and Sgt Eric Robertson are honoured on the 'Memorial Wall' at Bootham Crescent.

An article produced by the 'Charlton Athletic Museum' has shed more light on the story of Sgt Reynolds who played 13 times for the Minstermen during the 1943/44 season.

Sgt Reynolds, who hailed from South East London, died from injuries suffered in Normandy just five days after being flown back to Britain. He was 24 years of age.
