Positive Penn ready for Stockport

By Ian Appleyard | 6th August 2018

Midfielder Russ Penn is in a positive frame of mind ahead of Tuesday night's Vanarama National League North game against Stockport County at Bootham Crescent (kick-off 7.45pm).

Speaking after the opening day defeat at Chorley, Penn - who will serve as club captain alongside first team captain Sean Newton this season - said: "This time next week, we could be on six points from nine and that's a good start. You have got to be positive, like I always am.

"The first game of the season is always a lottery because everybody ups their games by 25 per cent," he said. "You will see after seven games this month where you stand."

Looking ahead to the visit of Stockport, Penn said: "It was a league fixture three or four years ago. So it's a massive game. We have got a really tough start and play Alfreton (on Saturday) who I fancy to do well this season.

"There are tough games every week and there's no hiding from the fact that we have got to be on it every game," he added
