Penney's post-match verdict

By Ian Appleyard | 7th January 2018

Sporting director Dave Penney spoke to the media after City's 2-1 victory at Darlington in Vanarama National League North.

Manager Martin Gray had opted to stay out of the limelight on his first return to his former club but celebrated with City supporters at the final whistle.

Penney was full of praise for the team's performance which resulted in a third consecutive win and lifted City into eighth spot in the table.

Another victory, next weekend, against Bradford Park Avenue at Bootham Crescent can now lift the team back into the play-off zone.

“It's great to come away with three points and keep our little run going. I think it’s finally clicking with the players what Martin wants,” said Penney. “Perhaps the games against North Ferriby gave the players that confidence to pass the ball. If you look back to the Boston game (December 2), it's completely chalk and cheese - how we want to play and how the players are playing the game."
