Parkin's rallying call to supporters

By Ian Appleyard | 13th January 2018

Striker Jon Parkin has urged City supporters to turn Bootham Crescent into a fortress entering a crucial week in the club's season.

The Minstermen can move back into the play-off zone today with a victory over promotion rivals Bradford Park Avenue (kick-off 3pm).

They visit AFC Telford United on Tuesday night and then host fourth-placed Spennymoor Town at Bootham Crescent next Saturday afternoon.

Speaking ahead of today's clash, Parkin said: "This is a massive game because they are just above us in the league.

"We have got three games this week. It's easier said than done but, if we can get nine points from those three, it would get us firmly into the play-offs and, hopefully, we will stay there."

Stressing the importance of the supporters, Parkin said: "The fans keep turning out in numbers and we are trying our best (for them).  No matter how we play, I don't think there has been any game where anyone can say we have not been trying our hardest.

"As a fan, that's all you can ask for. If you are not good enough, you are not good enough but all you can do is try your hardest and I don't feel there have been any games where we have not actually done that.

"They need to stick with us and we need to make Bootham Crescent a fortress where teams fear coming to play us," he added.

Parkin has scored 24 goals in all competitions so far this season and is now the joint leading marksman in Vanarama National League North on 19 goals with Stockport County's Jason Oswell.

City, meanwhile, boast the second highest average home attendance figure in the division (2767) behind only Stockport (3379).
