Parkin voted Clubman of the Year

By Ian Appleyard | 23rd April 2018

Jon Parkin was presented with the 'Billy Fenton Memorial Clubman Trophy' prior to Saturday's game against Leamington at Bootham Crescent.

'Big Jon', who is currently recovering from a knee operation, won the award following the annual vote among City supporters.

The veteran striker is City's leading marksman this season with 25 goals in 31 appearances but has been unable to play in nine of the last 10 games due to injury and suspension.

"It was nice to get the award but also bitter-sweet because we have not really had the season we should have done," Parkin admitted.

"I have missed a lot of games and I feel I have fallen short of the amount of goals I could have scored this season. If I am honest, I would rather someone else have scored 30 goals and won the award instead!"

With City's season all but over, Parkin, 36, is now focusing on a return to first team action at the start of next season.

"It's been frustrating with my suspension and injury but you can't really do much about it now," he said. "If we had been in the play-offs, I would have rushed back to action but - with that now looking an improbability - there's no point in taking any risks."

Parkin joins a list of winners that, over the last 45 years, has included City greats such as Keith Walwyn, Chris Topping, Phil Burrows, Derek Hood, and Jon McCarthy.

He is pictured receiving his award (above) from Dave Fenton, the son of former City winger Billy, and Kevin Walker (centre) who is also a member of the Fenton family.
