Parkin on his return to the frontline

By Ian Appleyard | 25th March 2019

Striker Jon Parkin has been talking about his return to the side ahead of Tuesday night's trip to FC United of Manchester (kick-off 7.45pm).

The former Hull City, Preston North End, and Stoke City striker - now 37 - made his first start for nearly seven months in Saturday's 2-2 draw against Boston United.

"It has been frustrating. No-one wants to be training all week and not playing on a Saturday and it's been a long time since I have played," he said.

"But I think I did alright and I have always been better when I have played consecutive games so, hopefully, I can get a start tomorrow night and kick-on from there."

Looking ahead to the final seven league games, Parkin said: "The Gaffer has stressed that - even if it gets to a point where mathematically we can't do either (go up or down) - we still need to be playing for ourselves, the club, and our futures."

On his own situation, Parkin said:"We will get to the end of the season and assess it from there. I am doing my coaching badges, I am enjoy doing my podcasts and, contrary to what anybody thinks, it is not affecting my football."
