Obituary: Kevin Randall

By Ian Appleyard | 29th March 2019

The club is saddened by the loss of former striker and caretaker-manager Kevin Randall, aged 73.

Randall played 118 times for City and scored 31 goals between 1977 and 1981 after joining the club from Mansfield Town.

He combined playing with youth-team coach duties at Bootham Crescent before becoming assistant manager to Barry Lyons in 1980.

He was appointed caretaker-manager in December 1981 following Lyons' departure and took charge for 11 games during a three month tenure.

Born in Ashton-under-Lyne, Randall also played for Bury, Chesterfield, and Notts County.

He was manager at Chesterfield between 1987 and 1988 and then assistant manager to John Duncan when the Spireites reached the 1997 FA Cup semi-finals.

Our thoughts are with his friends and family.
