Nuneaton Town match information

By Ian Appleyard | 18th August 2017

York City host Nuneaton Town on Saturday afternoon (kick-off 3pm) looking to secure a first home win of the season in National League North.

The two clubs met for the first time in last season's FA Trophy third round when early goals from Amari Morgan-Smith, Vadaine Oliver and Sean Newton secured a 3-0 victory for City.

Formerly known as Nuneaton Borough, the club was liquidated in 2008 but reformed as Nuneaton Town after being demoted two divisions from Conference North to Southern League Division One.

Three promotions in the next four seasons followed and Town then spent three seasons in the Conference Premier (National League) before suffering relegation in 2015.

Former Leicester City, Barnsley, and Darlington striker Tommy Wright was appointed manager in November 2016 and Town finished 12th in the table last season.

They currently sit 19th in the table having lost three of their first four games.

City are seventh after a return of seven points from the first four games and are chasing a fourth consecutive clean sheet.

Former City winger Ashley Chambers, 27, joined Town this summer and is looking forward to his return to Bootham Crescent.

Chambers made over 100 appearances for the Minstermen and helped the club return to the Football League and win the FA Trophy in 2012.

"I had a great time at York," he told Town's official website. "There are a lot of very happy memories from my time at the club.

“It will be another tough game for us, there’s no doubt about that, but whilst we haven’t got the results yet, there have been good aspects of our play in the last three games," he added.

“A result at a club like York could give us a kick-start. We’ve been working hard on certain areas of our game and we’re looking forward to the challenge.

Admission to Saturday's game is 'pay-on-the-turnstile'. Visit the ticket section of the club website for details of prices:
