Newton demands FA Cup 'reaction'

By Ian Appleyard | 26th September 2017

Captain Sean Newton says City need a 'reaction' when they visit South Shields on Saturday (kick-off 3pm) in the third qualifying round of the FA Cup.

The Minstermen suffered their first defeat in four games when losing to Vanarama National League North leaders Harrogate Town at the weekend and now visit a side who are top of Evo-Stik North.

"It's football and you have got to react," says Newton. "When we have lost in the past, or drawn games we should have won, I think we have reacted really well in the league. There's no difference now.

"When it comes to getting ready for Saturday we have literally got to forget about this (the Harrogate result). We have got to look at the things we should have done better - in terms of stopping the goals - and then we have got to move on quickly and make sure we get a result on Saturday and stay in the hat for the FA Cup."

City, who are seventh in the table with 12 games gone, return to league action against third-placed Brackley Town at home on Saturday October 7 and Newton said: "The priority is the league. We have got Brackley and Salford the next two league games and for me we need six points. No doubt about that."
