Maguire thriving in full time football

By Dan Simmonite | 19th July 2019

Summer signing Dan Maguire is adapting well to the test of professional football as the frontman scored his first goal in City colours on Wednesday night against Hartlepool United.

Maguire scored the equaliser against the National League opponents; a goal in which gave City the momentum to go on and win the game 2-1 at Bootham Crescent.

Speaking after the game, Maguire said: “You want to test yourself at the highest level possible.

“I struggled at the start getting used to full time but now I’m getting into it and picking up my fitness.

“Hartlepool was a good test and I think everyone put a shift in – it’s something to build on going forward into the proper season.”

Maguire scored 25 goals last season to propel part-timers Blyth Spartans into the National League North playoffs, but the England ‘C’ international wants to go one better this season and clinch promotion with York City.

He added: “It’s good to get off the mark, it was a bit of a tap-in but they all count.

“I’ve got no goal targets, I take each game is it comes and see what happens at the end of the season.

“Hopefully if I do well personally, and the team does well, then we can aim for promotion.”

York City’s new star striker will be hoping to add to his tally this Saturday against local rivals Scarborough Athletic – kick off 1pm at Bootham Crescent.

Admission is ‘pay on the gate’ with prices £10 for adults and £5 for concessions.
