Louis early return a massive bonus

By Ian Appleyard | 10th March 2018

Louis Almond says his early return to action after a shoulder operation has been a 'massive bonus'.

The former Blackpool and Tranmere Rovers striker is hoping to make his first start since September when City host Boston United today at Bootham Crescent (kick-off 3pm).

"I am getting back there, training well, and I feel good," he said. "I have had to bide my time and thought I would only get back for the last four or five games so ten is a massive bonus. Hopefully, I can get some wins and some goals."

Almond, 26, is aiming to make up for lost time after spending three months on the sidelines and hopes his performances will lead to a new contract in the summer.

"As a team, the aim is getting promoted," he said. "For myself, it's about working hard, getting back fit, getting goals, and doing well for the team and seeing what happens next year if I can get another contract.

"I have just been dedicated to getting back fit and getting back in the team," he said. "Even if I had been told I wasn't getting anything, I would just look to get back fit and see what happens from there."

Almond, who made a 20 minute appearance as substitute in City's last game against Alfreton Town, has yet to score at Bootham Crescent since joining the club in the summer - but hopes that will soon change!

"I have got a lot of assists, I just couldn't find the net!" he smiled. "Hopefully, I can turn that around now and get goals instead of assists. Every game from now until the end of the season is massive. This is no bigger than any other. Hopefully, we can get the points and kick on from there."
