Law seeks victory at former club

By Ian Appleyard | 10th November 2017

Josh Law has good memories of his time at Alfreton Town but there will be no divided loyalties when he returns with York City this weekend.

Defender Law spent seven years with the Derbyshire club after being signed by his father Nicky who was manager at North Street between 2007-2017.

He returns for the first time on Saturday afternoon intent on inflicting a defeat on his former employers. His father, meanwhile, is now the head of under-23 recruitment at Burnley.

“Obviously, I was there quite a while. I had a really good time down there, and I have got some good memories of the place," said Law. “My 'old man' was the manager. That was part of the reason I went there - and to go and get games. It ended up longer than I thought I would - but I loved every minute."

Law, 28, initially joined Alfreton on loan in October 2007 but the deal became permanent when he was released by Chesterfield the following summer.

He made over 250 appearances for the club before leaving to join Scottish Premier League side Motherwell in summer 2014.

Law, who joined City in the summer from Oldham Athletic, feels there is no room for slip-ups now if the club is to win automatic promotion this season.

"I think every game we have is a 'must-win' - because (automatic promotion) is what we’re aiming for but, you look at the table now, and you can’t really have any more slip-ups if you want to go and win it. We’ve got to go there and get three points.

"It’s a massive gap at the minute – we never imagined that it would be – but it only takes three wins for us and Salford and Harrogate to lose a couple and it changes," he said. “They haven’t had their bad patch yet - but they will get it - and, hopefully, it coincides with our good patch.”
