Minsterbelles host Harrogate this Sunday

By Olly Wood | 13th May 2022

The Minsterbelles play their final home game of the 2021/22 campaign at home this Sunday to Harrogate Town in the second North Yorkshire derby in as many weeks.

Last weekend City were crowned North East Regional Women’s Football League Premier Division champions following Ossett’s 1-3 defeat against South Shields, capping off a special day where City also won the County Cup 8-9 on penalties after a 1-1 draw against Redcar Town.

The last time York played a league fixture was two weeks ago at Rossett Sports Park where they ran out 1-5 winners over this weekend’s opponents Harrogate Town.

Both Sophie Tinson and Holly Findlay netted a brace each and skipper Nikki Brown also scored her fourth of the campaign, helping York to a big win over their local rivals.

This weekend’s match is Harrogate’s final fixture of the season, having played their last home game against York two weeks prior. The highest Harrogate can finish this season is third, where they are currently placed going into this weekend’s fixture.

Following the conclusion of this Sunday’s game City will be awarded the league trophy, lifting their second piece of silverware in seven days.

Kick off on Sunday is 2pm and the Minsterbelles would love to see as many people down at York St Johns Sports Park as possible to show their support for the ladies brilliant achievements this season.
