Jasper's pride at City opportunity

13th April 2019

Defender Jasper Moon has expressed his pride after making his senior debut for the Minstermen last weekend against Southport.

Moon, who spent eight years in the youth system at Leicester City, joined the club on a work experience loan from League One side Barnsley just two weeks earlier.

He was plunged into the first team by manager Steve Watson in the absence of centrebacks Joe Tait, David Mirfin and Daniel Parslow through illness or injury and helped City secure a 1-0 victory.

Still only 18, Moon is now hoping to keep his place in the side for today's Vanarama National League North trip to Chester (kick-off 3pm)

"It was a very proud moment," he said. "I went back to Barnsley (on Tuesday) and everyone was asking me how I had done.

"I have been at Barnsley for two years and before that I was at Leicester from the age of 8 to under 16s. I got released (by Leicester) and two weeks after that I went straight up to Barnsley, played two games, and they wanted to sign me."

Moon has yet to figure in Barnsley's first team but has been regular for the club's Under-23s and sat on the bench for a Checkatrade Trophy game at Oldham Athletic in September.

On his temporary move to Bootham Crescent, Moon said: "I view it as a positive. It's making me play in men's football and getting me ready for the first team when I go back to Barnsley. I am training here in the mornings then I go back to Barnsley to do the gym."
