Improved performance by reserves

By Ian Appleyard | 28th November 2017

York City's reserves produced an improved performance this afternoon as they lost 3-1 at Rotherham United in Central League North.

Youth team manager Steve Torpey was able to call upon six senior professionals in addition to a trialist winger who scored City's goal.

Goalkeeper Luke Simpson returned to action after recovering from the minor injury suffered prior to Saturday's game against Coalville Town.

Leftback Alex Whittle was given an opportunity to play in the centre of midfield and there was also a return to action in a City shirt for Connor Smith following the completion of a one month loan deal at Whitby Town.

Both Aaron Haswell and Aidan Connolly struck the woodwork before Rotherham scored a third goal seven minutes from the end.

"It was an encouraging display," said Torpey afterwards. "We had a bit more experience in there this week and the performance and the attitude were good."

York City: Simpson; Smith, Muggleton, Whittle, Rogerson, Watson, Trialist, Walton (Thompson 90), McNaughton, Haswell (Jackson 84), Connolly. Unused substitutes: Lawrence, Wilton.
