Griffiths aims high after City switch

By Ian Appleyard | 15th May 2018

New signing Kallum Griffiths says City will be targeting the Vanarama National League North title next season.

The Minstermen have spent two consecutive years out of the Football League and missed out on this season's play-offs.

But Griffiths - the fourth new arrival at the club this summer after leaving Spennymoor Town - is joining the club with only one objective in mind.

"This was a hard one to turn down," he reflected. "I have always dreamed of going full-time and getting the best out of it.

"I have been at Spennymoor nine years and they have been the best nine years. Spennymoor is a great club," he said. "But I think I need a new challenge and going full-time is a chance I couldn't refuse."

According to Griffiths, there was little, if any, need for manager Martin Gray to 'sell' the merits of the club to him during contract negotiations.

"It sells itself," he said. "He showed us around the training ground and the ground and I met a few of the backroom staff but York City speaks for itself. It's a team that should be in league football. Anything but winning the league this year, I think, will be disappointing."

Describing his own qualities as a rightback, Griffiths said: "I like to get it down and I like to play. I can also turn the back four and whip a good cross in. I pride myself on not getting beaten one-on-one and no crosses getting into the box."
