Gray: 'Time for players to deliver'

By Ian Appleyard | 8th March 2018

Martin Gray is demanding greater consistency and a stronger mentality from his players entering the final ten league games of the season.

The Minstermen, who host Boston United on Saturday afternoon at Bootham Crescent (kick-off 3pm), are currently fifth in the Vanarama National League North table, occupying one of this season's six play-off places.

Speaking to the media this afternoon, manager Gray said: "If you want to get where you need to get to, you have to have consistency. This is now the time where it has got to come. We can do as much talking as we want but the players have got to start delivering."

With last weekend's game at Kidderminster Harriers postponed due to bad weather, City have had a fortnight to work on things since a 1-1 home draw against Alfreton Town on February 24.

"The break has been good. I think it has given the players no excuses," said Gray. "They have re-charged mentally. It's come at the right time and, hopefully, we will see a great result on the back of that this weekend."

Gray admits that City have a 'point to prove' following a 2-1 defeat at Boston in December which temporarily dragged the club out of the play-off zone.

"We have definitely got a point to prove here," he said. "We didn't perform to our standards. We made it a very scruffy game. We didn't deserve to get beat - don't get me wrong - but we certainly didn't do enough to win the game.

"We have got to get back to that winning mentality and make sure our home ground becomes very much a fortress.

"It is the stage of the season now where it's the business end.  It's about one thing and only one thing and that's results."

Gray reports no fresh injury problems but has confirmed there will be changes to the City line-up. Striker Jon Parkin serves the final game of his three match ban.
