Gray seeking final pieces of jigsaw

By Ian Appleyard | 15th May 2018

Manager Martin Gray is aiming to complete his summer shopping inside the next seven to ten days.

Former Spennymoor Town rightback Kallum Griffiths joined City today and became Gray's fourth new recruit of the summer.

Gateshead trio Wes York, Jordan Burrow, and Russ Penn have also joined the club this month.

"We have been working very, very hard," said Gray. "We had to get rid of players initially but I am pleased we have got somewhere near to what we are looking to do.

"I still feel that we are one or two players short - the final little pieces of the jigsaw that we are putting together - but, equally, I am very happy that we have got some key signings in.

"I am hoping that - in the next week to 10 days - we are hopefully somewhere near done with all our business."

Commenting on the capture of Griffiths, Gray said: "He's a really experienced player at this level of football. He's been part of a very good Spennymoor team and I have watched him for numerous years. I have seen his progression and I think he will be a great asset to our football club.

"This was the opportunity he had been waiting for. The player wanted to go full-time and it's great that he was out-of-contract with Spennymoor.

"He's got great assets - his quality as a defender, he's very tenacious and, equally, he has got ability on the ball and from set-plays as well.

"He's got a great right foot and comes up and takes lots of set-plays in and around the box. Goals in a player's armoury can only be of benefit to the team."
