Appeal for York City Archives

15th January 2020

As part of their Uncovering York’s Sporting Heritage project in conjunction with Explore York Libraries and Archives, and YCK Foundation, the York City FC Foundation have worked with a group of volunteers and fans to create a York City FC Archives Group that is coordinated by fans for fans.

The project has enabled the Foundation to place archives in their possession in the Archives at Explore Library York City Centre for the benefit of all fans now and in the future not only to ensure that they are stored in a way that will preserve them indefinitely, but also so that they are available to be accessed by anyone rather than being stored away or only on display in locations that are inaccessible to a wider public.

The Archives group have worked diligently to catalogue the numerous matchday programmes, fanzines and press cuttings that the Foundation have and these have now been transferred to Library Archives so we are now on the look out to find some of the missing gems to complete the sets for some seasons.

So this is an appeal to all fans, on behalf of the Archives group. In particular they are looking for any matchday programmes from 1922 to 1955, photos from matchdays or social events surrounding the club such as the former Xmas parties, and any memorabilia that may be connected with the club.

Fans can contribute by way of donating items, and can be guaranteed of their safety and availability for years to come for all fans to enjoy, or you can agree to loan the group any item on a short term basis so that it can be digitised (ie photographed, captured on video etc).

If you have any items to donate or loan, or would like to get involved with the group, please don’t hesitate to contact the Foundation office on 01904 559508 or email the group directly on
