Ryan Whitley signs two year extension

By Dan Simmonite | 23rd June 2022

We are delighted to announce that goalkeeper Ryan Whitley will remain with York City after signing a two-year contract extension.

Whitley progressed through the club’s academy and enters his sixth season with the Minstermen after signing his first professional contract with the club in 2017.

The 22-year-old has spent the last two seasons on loan at Scarborough Athletic, working with former Clubman of the Year Michael Ingham and earning promotion via the playoffs last season – keeping a total of 20 clean sheets in the Northern Premier League.

After signing a two-year deal, Whitley said: “If I can get that number one shirt and prove myself then who knows what can happen. It’s down to me – I need to work hard and do the right things and give it my best shot.

“Hopefully I can continue the good progression of goalkeepers at this club and let’s look at promotion – why not – with a club like this I think we can do it.”
