Goalkeeper Maison Campbell signs for York City

By Dan Simmonite | 24th July 2021

York City Football Club is delighted to welcome goalkeeper Maison Campbell who signs from Mansfield Town.

The 18-year-old had featured for the League Two side on the first team bench on several occasions before his release at the end of the 2020/21 season.

He now joins City after a successful two-week trial period, impressing the management team and goalkeeping coach Andy Collett.

Upon signing, Campbell said: “It’s my first professional contract and it’s a club with a lot of promise so I’m buzzing with it.

“I came in on trial two weeks ago and done what I needed to do, Pete and Ryan have had more experience in games and in the leagues so I think I could learn a lot.

“Coming in I want to get my place in the squad and hopefully play a few games in the first team and at the end of it all hopefully get promotion.”

Assistant-Manager Micky Cummins added: “We’ve been looking at backup for Pete and Ryan and for someone to play in the youth team as well.

“Technically he is really nice, he is of a good size and Colly the goalkeeping coach had a good look at him and believes he is one for the future, so he has come in and is going to be our third choice for now.

“He has shown all the attributes we look for in a keeper and a kid. He’s hungry, shown good desire and is great around the place so we feel it is a very good signing for us.”

The deal is subject to FA and National League approval.
