Dyson returns from injury troubles

By Dan Simmonite | 14th January 2022

Olly Dyson is expected to return tomorrow for the Buildbase FA Trophy tie against Slough Town.

The versatile midfielder’s last involvement was in the FA Cup first round against Buxton in November, which was cut short when Dyson was taken off injured on 70 minutes.

“Hopefully [it will be my first game back] I feel ready, and I feel fit so hopefully I get some minutes,” said Dyson.

“I’ve done some training sessions and we had an in-house game the other week. I got 25 minutes and I feel good now.

“I got a kick on my calf, and it ended up being compartment syndrome – I tore my calf as well from playing on, so it was a mixture of both things, but it’s all healed.”

Whilst Dyson has been out, new manager John Askey has joined the club and revamped the existing training schedule, something which has had a positive impact on the pitch.

Dyson added: “The new gaffer has come in and I haven’t been involved with him yet, so it’s been good to get out there with Kingsley as well and get some good sessions – I’m starting to get a grip of it now and the way he plays and it’s good.

“I can see a difference with the lads – the intensity, the fitness – we are doing more running, and I’ve felt it myself. Things are looking a lot better.”

Despite sitting mid-table, the league position looks favourable for City to push on, with three games in hand which could propel Askey’s side up as high as fifth in the National League North.

And Dyson is looking forward to helping the team on his return, in any position the Manager sees fit.

“We need to just keep winning games and we will see what happens – we have turned a corner and we are looking really good at the minute,” he said.

“My favourite position is attacking midfield but anywhere the gaffer puts me I will try and do a job for the boys.”

If the Minstermen progress against Slough tomorrow afternoon they will be just three wins from playing in the final at Wembley Stadium.

Kick-off is 3pm at the LNER Community Stadium.
