Commitment, effort, and desire

By Ian Appleyard | 9th October 2017

JON Parkin says York City can win every game between now and the end of the season - if they show the 'commitment, effort, and desire' that brought victory against Brackley Town.

Striker Parkin scored both goals in City's 2-1 home victory at the weekend - including a late winner with a sensational freekick - to give new manager Martin Gray a winning start to his reign at Bootham Crescent.

City have now moved up to sixth in the Vanarama National League North table ahead of Saturday's trip to 17th-placed Leamington.

"We need to be 'at it', week-in, week-out," said Parkin. "But if we carry on putting the commitment and the effort and the desire we did at the weekend. I don't see any reason why we can't win every game.

"We have still got a lot of hard work to do and things to learn about how the Gaffer wants to play," he admitted. "But if we put in the effort and commitment we showed on Saturday, we won't be far off."

Reflecting on the change in management at the club last week, Parkin said: "It's not the first time it's happened in my career and it's not the last. We came in Monday and it was a fresh start.

"The Gaffer is trying to get his ideas over but we have only had a week. As the weeks and months go past, we will get exactly what the manager wants us to do.

"A new manager comes in and everyone is on their toes," he added. "That's just the nature of when a manager gets sacked and a new manager comes in. It's down to us as players to make sure the manager is picking us in his team."
