Snooker's Betway UK Championship starting soon.

By Nick Greatrex | 8th November 2018

Once again this season we have been working with World Snooker. As you may have noticed they have an advertising board behind the goal, banner in the Programme and have also been giving away tickets as part of the matchday 50/50 Draw.

The tournament will run from November 27 to December 9 at the York Barbican. Tickets are available now and fans must book fast because certain sessions are already sold out - for details visit www.worldsnooker.com/tickets

The UK Championship is one of snooker's most historic and prestigious tournaments.  It is considered the second biggest ranking event, after the World Championship, and those two tournaments make up snooker's Triple Crown along with the Masters.

The UK Championship was first staged in 1977 and has been won by virtually all of snooker's great names.
Since 2011 it has been staged at the York Barbican, and attracts huge crowds throughout. In 2017, Ronnie O'Sullivan won the title for the sixth time by beating Shaun Murphy 10-5 in the final. O'Sullivan equalled Steve Davis's record of six UK titles and will be aiming to go one better and lift the trophy for the seventh time in 2018. Stephen Hendry has won the event five times, and John Higgins has three to his name.

Coverage from BBC television starts from the second round stage, from Saturday December 1st. The event is broadcast to hundreds of millions of fans around the world on a multitude of channels including Eurosport and Chinese national broadcaster CCTV5. The eyes of the world are truly focussed on York for this event every year.
Alongside O'Sullivan, top stars such as world number one Mark Selby, World Champion Mark Williams, crowd favourite Judd Trump, snooker legend John Higgins, Neil Robertson, Shaun Murphy, Ding Junhui and Jimmy White will be among the line up.

A spokesman for World Snooker said: "We can't wait to get back to York as it is one of the favourite events of the year for the players and fans. York is a beautiful city and the Barbican has proved itself to be one of the best venues on our circuit since we first staged the UK Championship there in 2001. Every year we see the tournament well supported by the people of Yorkshire and when the arena is packed out the atmosphere is fabulous. "This year we have an extremely strong demand for tickets so fans must get their seats booked quickly or risk missing out. "The York Barbican really has become the home of the Betway UK Championship and we hope to be going back for many years to come."

Tickets start at just £8 for the early rounds, and with the whole of the first round to be played on the opening three days (November 27-29) it's an incredible chance for fans to see a wide range of the sport's top players. All-day tickets for the final on Sunday December 9 cost £73.
