Opening The Turnstiles - York Business Week

18th November 2019

As part of York Business Week, York City opened the turnstiles to York's thriving business community!

The 'Insight Event' was held exclusively for business-people from in and around York (one coming from as far afield as Manchester!) with the aim of portraying York City as an engaging organisation in York.

Following registration and networking in the 1922 Bar (and a quick signpost towards the Club Shop) the 30+ attendees were welcomed by Commercial Manager Chris Pegg to blustery Bootham Crescent. Supporting the event were the Board of Directors, Foundation Team, Academy Team and Media Officer Dan Simmonite, all of whom gave an overview of their roles at the club and detailed what their challenges/successes have been since joining the club.

After the introductions, the tour of the stadium led by Stadium Development Director Ian McAndrew began - the guests were treated to a detailed history of the club and stadium as they walked around the pitch (including a walk through the tunnel under the Popular Stand) which culminated in a meet-and-greet and organised penalty shootout with Steve Watson, Ryan Whitley and Nathan Dyer.

Times are a'changing - attendees look around the home dressing room - it's a bit more modern in the new stadium!

Once a winner had (finally!) been decided, the guests were invited to view and sit in the Changing Rooms, walk through the Boardroom and network over a complentary beer from our partners at Brew York (or soft drink) in the Minster Room.

The event was a fantastic success, both in terms of actively engaging within the city as well as generating leads for future sponsorship and partnership. Dale Linehan from Great Annual Savings Group commented: "(The) event was very useful and I want to thank you for the excellent hospitality. The interaction with Steve Watson and the players was great and the tour of the ground was genuinely very interesting - thanks so much!"

In addition, one attendee remarked on social media: "(I) had the pleasure of looking round Bootham Crescent yesterday organised by the club as part of York Business Week. Really interesting to see what goes on behind the scenes and see some of the many positive changes taking place."

Hopefully we'll be opening our doors here at next year's York Business Week!
