Turnstiles to be sold from Bootham Crescent

18th January 2022

The launch of the Bootham Crescent sale saw many items of memorabilia up for sale and included the turnstiles from the ground. The four pairs of turnstiles within the car park that serviced the Longhurst end of the ground were the more modern type, whilst those in the main stand and along Grosvenor Road were the old type and classed as antique by the valuers we involved.

The launch of the sale offered all these items to City Supporters as well as being made available to grass root clubs who were looking to improve their own ground facilities.  The more modern turnstiles to the Longhurst end of the ground were quickly purchased by other clubs who were looking at improving their own ground facilities.

Three of the older turnstiles were also purchased by supporters or other clubs.

From the outcome the club has been working closely with Historic England and Persimmon in creating a Bootham Crescent memorial area within the development, allowing for supporters to visit and recall so many memories and the history of Bootham Crescent.   The club has retained one of the antique turnstiles from the Grosvenor Road end of the ground together with the recent discovery, the only ‘Exit Only’ turnstile within the ground.   Both turnstiles will be relocated within the memorial area and form part of the history of Bootham Crescent.

The seven remaining turnstiles have recently been collected from Bootham Crescent by Duggleby Stephenson Auctioneers; these will be auctioned to a wider audience at a date to be confirmed – once a date is confirmed the club will release further information.
