Top journalist joins team

Ian Appleyard
By Phil Howden | 21st July 2017

YORK City have appointed Ian Appleyard as Head of Press and Public Relations.

One of the region's leading football journalists, Ian spent nearly two decades covering the professional game for the 'Yorkshire Post' newspaper.

He joined City at the start of the week after spending just over 12 months working on 'The Press' newspaper in York and the 'Telegraph & Argus' newspaper in Bradford.

Chairman Jason McGill believes his addition to the staff is an important step forward in helping to publicise and promote the club.

And Ian is keen to play his part behind-the-scenes in helping the club move back towards the Football League.

"I am looking forward to this new role and feel my experience in sports journalism can only be an asset to the existing hard-working team at the club," he said. "Despite recent setbacks, it is an exciting time to join York City. Work on the new stadium is due to start in the Autumn, season ticket sales are up, and there is a real sense of optimism among the fans.”
