Supporters honoured at LNER Community Stadium

By Dan Simmonite | 8th July 2021

York City supporters have been recognised at the LNER Community Stadium for their outstanding support of the club during the Covid-19 pandemic.

As the 2019/20 campaign was cut short in March 2020, 97% of season ticket holders left their money in the club, opting out of a refund to help the Minstermen at the beginning of the pandemic.

Now the club has moved to honour these 1097 names in a lasting memorial which is situated within the Fanzone at the LNER Community Stadium. It is the first of many branding projects the club is working on.

A club spokesperson said: “We were deeply touched by the efforts of our supporters to help the club in our time of need and amongst the uncertainty of the pandemic last year.

“The supporters are the lifeblood of this club and to show our appreciation we wanted to honour their names individually for all to see at our brand-new stadium.

“It is the first of many projects we have in the pipeline to make the stadium feel more like home, with the Pop Stand clock from Bootham Crescent and wooden seats from the old ground currently in the process of being moved across.”

Supporters will get the chance to see the club’s new stadium this Sunday at the Open Training Session.

Tickets are FREE for the event and gates are open 10am-1pm, with the session taking place between 11am and midday.

Season tickets are also still on sale with the club reaching the 1,000 mark last week.

Supporters can purchase by ringing the Ticket Office direct on 01904 942232 or visiting the online ticketing portal at:
