Statement from the Board of Directors: Damage to Stadium

13th May 2022

We acknowledge the comments and assurances provided today by the York Stadium Management Company following our Play-Off game against Chorley on Wednesday evening.

We understand this statement includes reinforcing and expanding existing procedures relating to safety and security within the LNER Community Stadium by ensuring any future planning, including Stewarding and Security aspects, is comprehensive, sufficiently robust and overall effective.

This intention, when implemented, should thereby provide a necessary assurance reasonably expected by the Football Club whereby there will only be a minimal possibility of any future repetition of similar events occurring.

York City Football Club are Community based, proud of our heritage and loyal supporters although those involved in the disgraceful scenes on Wednesday evening should now reflect on the damage their actions have inevitably caused which are significant.

The overall cost, which is not necessarily only financial even though this will be substantial, includes severe damage to our enviable reputation, being acknowledged throughout the Football Community as a Club with magnificent Fan Support

As a consequence of these regrettable actions on Wednesday evening a considerable number of our fans will now be deprived of the ability to watch this crucial game and support the Team at Brackley tomorrow with the home side withdrawing approximately 1,400 tickets from sale to York City Fans in view of their perceived additional security costs that would be considered necessary.
