Sean Newton wins Clubman of the Year 2019/20

By Dan Simmonite | 11th September 2020

Sean Newton has won The Billy Fenton Memorial Clubman of the Year for the third time after receiving 55% of the fans' vote.

He joins fellow defender Daniel Parslow for the most trophy wins; after achieving the award in 2016/17, 2018/19, and 2019/20.

Upon winning the award, Newton said: "It's obviously a great feeling. I think I deserved it this year more than last year to be fair.

"I was involved in a very good team with very good players and it made it easier for me to keep my performances at a good standard.

Pete Jameson came second, with 17.8% of the vote and the 31-year-old was quick to credit his goalkeeper between the sticks for the 17 clean sheets throughout last season.

"There is some record for last season, I think we kept a lot last year, but if we can beat that it's something that me and Pistol (Pete Jameson) will definitely be looking to do," said Newton.

Looking ahead to the new season he said: "I'd like to chip in with at least five-plus goals and assists personally and as a team, there is only one goal there and everyone knows it."
