Mills hails City's 'best 45 minutes'

By Ian Appleyard | 16th August 2017

York City manager Gary Mills rates Tuesday night's first half display against Darlington as the club's 'best 45 minutes' of football since his return to Bootham Crescent.

The Minstermen were held to a goalless draw by the Quakers but produced an impressive performance that built on the back-to-back victories at Blyth Spartans and Bradford Park Avenue.

Mills, who started his second spell as City manager 10 months ago, said: "I thought it was an excellent performance and a good game of football.

"Personally, I thought that was the best 45 minutes since I have come back to the football club. We looked strong, we looked organised, we looked powerful, and we created chances.

"I am not just talking about this season," he added. "I am talking about last (season) as well. It's possibly the best my team has played since I came back.

"We were excellent and we won a lot of second balls," he reflected. "We played when we could, got down the sides when we could, and we put quality into the box. It must have been an entertaining game for the fans."

Mills is now targeting victory against Nuneaton Town at Bootham Crescent on Saturday (kick-off 3pm) to secure a return of 10 points from the opening five games of the National League North season.

"We have to reproduce that on Saturday now," he said. "If we can get a result on Saturday, that will be 10 points from the first five games - which is not a bad return."
