Mills aims to make City fans smile

3rd August 2017

Gary Mills has been speaking to the media ahead of the opening National League North game against AFC Telford United (Saturday, kick-off 3pm).

Describing pre-season as ‘one of his best’, Mills hailed the current mood of positivity around the club and praised City’s supporters.

“When you are in football, it’s in your blood. You actually support a team,” he said. “It’s times like this, when you see how much supporters actually do support their team and what it means. I am here to bring that smile back on their face.”

Hundreds of City supporters have descended on Bootham Crescent today to collect season tickets ahead of Saturday’s opening league fixture. The ticket office will be staying open until 8pm tonight and re-opening on Friday between 10.30am-5pm.

“I have just spoken to a couple of fans in the car-park who said ‘We can’t wait to go home on a Saturday night with a smile on our faces - we haven’t done that for a couple of years!” said Mills.

“I know what that means. As a manager, when you win a game, your weekend is totally different. You realise it’s no different to supporters.

“My job is to put the team out there, and the players’ is to do their jobs, to make sure they do have those smiles.”
