A message from the Chairman

24th December 2020

What a year 2020 has been.

If someone had prophesied how 2020 would unfold, it would have seemed implausible, the makings of a Hollywood movie, but the reality, due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, is that we have experienced a dramatic change to our way of life and what was once unthinkable has now become accepted as part of our daily lives.

I would like to pay tribute to all the dedicated Frontline Workers who have put themselves at tremendous risk to care and support others; you are the true spirit and heroes of our Nation.

I would also like to send my thoughts and prayers to all of our supporters that have lost family and friends over the past year.

Lockdowns, furlough, facemasks, social distancing, bubbles, zoom meetings, remote working and playing behind closed doors are now the norm. We have all adapted, been frustrated, lost hope, regained hope, got back up on our feet and shown both resilience and patience towards the unique situation that we find ourselves in.

Football stopped, Covid guidelines were introduced, football returned, play was behind closed doors, a new season started, live streaming was introduced, the importance of our digital platforms and remote output increased and we welcomed fans back into Bootham Crescent. It has been, and still is, challenging and everyone at the club appreciates the co-operation, adaptability and understanding that our fans have shown us.

From the board and staff, to the players, sponsors, partners and our fans, every single person connected with the club has undoubtedly had personal worries, stresses or pressure during this year, but still found the time to support the club in some way. Whether that was by supporting #Promote2, completing the fan survey, fundraising, sending messages of encouragement, buying a live stream, showing positivity on social media, working overtime, applying to be a volunteer, buying merchandise, connecting with us on social media or donating to the virtual turnstile,

Thank you.

I’m hopeful that 2021 will bring some normality and some much needed cheer, it will be sad to leave Bootham Crescent, our home since 1932, but I look forward to welcoming you all to the LNER Community Stadium, the next chapter in the extraordinary history of York City Football Club.

Please keep safe and healthy.

I wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
