Meet the players at club Open Day

20th June 2018

York City Football Club is delighted to announce that an Open Day will be held at Bootham Crescent on Sunday July 22.

The family event, which will be free to attend, will give supporters an opportunity to meet and chat with City's players and management, watch a first team training session, and attend the official 2018-19 season photocall.

Additional entertainment for youngsters will include a bouncy castle, face painting, ice creams, and other stalls. For the grown-ups, a licensed bar will be open in the Walwyn Lounge and light refreshments will also be available in the 1922 Bar.

The team's brand new 2018-19 replica kit, manufactured by Under Armour and supplied by Dreamsport, will be on sale for the first time in the club shop.

Sporting director Dave Penney believes the event will further strengthen the bond between City's players and supporters ahead of the historic final season at Bootham Crescent. All funds raised, meanwhile, will go towards youth development.

"Sometimes supporters don't get to know players enough. They see them on a matchday and get a quick autograph and see them warming up - but the players are under pressure and under stress so you never quite see the real person, I don't think.

"We will have stalls and bouncy castles and ice creams, we are going to do the photocall, and the manager will do a training session on the pitch - which people don't see all of the time.

"But we will then get all the players lined-up in the stand so supporters can come across and have a chat or get an autograph or a selfie," he said. "You can get up close and personal with them - which they are not quite used to!

"On matchdays, they under pressure to concentrate on the game," he added. "At the Open Day, we can be a little bit more open, transparent, and accessible to the public. We are looking forward to that."

Gates will open at 10.30am with the official team photo taking place at 11am. Manager Martin Gray will hold a training session on the pitch at 12noon. The players will be available for autographs and selfies from 1.15pm-2pm.
