Josh Law talks 'freekicks'

1st August 2017

JOSH Law has shown a real talent for freekicks in pre-season and hopes to weigh in with more goals once the ‘serious stuff’ starts this weekend.

The former Oldham Athletic and Motherwell defender scored three times in two games from deadball situations against Grantham Town and Oakham United.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s opening National League North fixture against AFC Telford United at Bootham Crescent (kick-off 3pm), Law said: “I have always took them wherever I have played. I have scored a few in the past.

“It’s nice to score them - but it’s only been pre-season (so far). Hopefully, when the season comes, I can score a few where it counts.”

Law, who joined the Minstermen this summer from Oldham, said: “All over the pitch, it’s handy if everybody can chip in with three or four. Obviously, the strikers are getting their goals so it spreads it around.

“I think I got five or six last season from fullback - which is not too bad - and a few of them were freekicks," he added. "I played one season at Alfreton and got into double figures, about 10 or 11, but generally I don’t score too many!”

City continue their preparations for the new season with a 'behind closed doors' game against a Bradford City under-23 side on Tuesday afternoon. This match is NOT open to the public.
