Harry Bunn signs for York City

By Dan Simmonite | 14th August 2020

We are delighted to announce the signing of forward Harry Bunn on a free transfer.

The 27-year-old marksman boasts a plethora of experience at Championship and League One levels, playing for the likes of Huddersfield Town, Sheffield United and Bury.

Bunn joins the Minstermen after leaving Scottish Premiership side Kilmarnock in May and was pleased to get the deal secured.

“I’m happy to be here now, I obviously spoke to the gaffer and we had a few conversations over the last week and thankfully now we've got it over the line.

“It’s an opportunity to get back playing again – the club is going to start going back in the right direction and I want to be a part of that.

Speaking on his style of play, Bunn said: “I’m one who likes to try and make things happen. Be creative and direct and try and get a few goals and a few assists as well.”

Steve Watson was thrilled to sign a player of Bunn’s calibre: “I was quite surprised when his agent got in touch with me, to be honest with you,” he said.

“Harry has played in the Championship and came through the ranks at Man City - with Kieran Kennedy actually.

“I saw him play in the Championship and I saw him play for Bury – he can play as an out and out forward or as a number ten and he’s a really good addition to us.

“He’s been training with Wigan under-23s since they started again so he is fit and raring to go and I think we are lucky to have a lad of his quality.

“Bringing him to the new ground and training ground and talking him through what we hope to do with York, the ambition we have all got here, he came back and was dead positive.

“It’s another good coup for the club to attract a player like that who has definitely had offers from higher leagues elsewhere.”

Bunn is Steve Watson’s sixth summer signing, with other players expected to sign next week – including the anticipated second striker who will now visit at a later date due to personal reasons.
