Gaffer: "Pattison has a big future"

12th December 2017

Loan signing Alex Pattison has been described as a player with a 'big future at a higher level' by manager Martin Gray.

Pattison, 20, joined the Minstermen today on a one month youth loan deal from Championship club Middlesbrough.

A product of Boro's Academy, the central midfield player has yet to play first team football but is hoping to be involved in Saturday's first round FA Trophy tie at Kidderminster Harriers.

Speaking exclusively to the club website today, Gray said: "Alex has been at Middlesbrough for ten or eleven years and is very, very highly thought of. I believe he will have a really big future in the game at a higher level. He is a very attacking minded midfield player and he has got a goal in his game, for sure.

"We have known about him for a long time," Gray added. "He's just come back from injury so I think it will benefit everybody. He will get the game-time that he needs and he will get the senior football that Academy players at that age need to experience."

Pattison, meanwhile, says he is aiming to bolster City's promotion push during his stay at Bootham Crescent.

"I am excited to be here. My aim is to win all the games, hopefully get some goals, and keep climbing that league," he said. "This club shouldn't be in this league - it needs to be back in league football."

On his own situation, Pattison said: "I would have been looking to go out on loan in August but the (ankle) injury came in July. I was training with the first team and it was just unfortunate timing.

"I have been back for three weeks or so now, I have played three games, and I got my first 90 minutes in on Sunday which was good (for Middlesbrough's Under-23 side against Norwich City in Premier League 2). I have come here for a month to try to get some games in and maybe get a (Football) League club in January."
