Duckworth rejoins City after 10-year absence

By Dan Simmonite | 13th August 2020

Michael Duckworth has joined York City after leaving FC Halifax Town in the summer.

The former youth team scholar rejoins the club after a 10-year absence playing the majority of his career in the Football League with Hartlepool United.

Also regular in the National League the past three seasons in West Yorkshire, the 28-year-old now moves back home to bolster City’s attacking strength down the right-hand side of the pitch.

Duckworth spoke upon returning to Bootham Crescent: “It’s been in the pipeline for a bit now, obviously I was here as a kid, spent a lot of years here and now I just feel like it’s a bit of unfinished business,” he said.

“All my family live in York, I’ve recently moved house and have a little one now so everything fits really to be playing here.”

Steve Watson was also pleased to secure another player from the league above as he continues the rebuild of his side. He said: “He’s a really talented right-back; very good on the ball, very good with both feet, can chip in with goals – and a local lad.

“I think it’s important we have a decent core of local lads; I know from my experience up in Newcastle that fans can empathise with lads from the same area.”
