Defender issues FA Cup warning

29th September 2017

City defender Daniel Parslow has warned that it would be dangerous to under-estimate tomorrow's FA Cup third qualifying round opponents South Shields.

Although the Evo-Stik North part-timers play two divisions below City in the National League pyramid, they are top-of-the-table, chasing a third consecutive promotion, and have lost just one of their last 50 games.

Parslow said: "It's a tough draw. We can't go up there half-hearted, we have to be ready from the first minute. They have beaten a lot of teams but we know, if we can perform as we can do, that we can go there and get a result."

During his first spell with the club, Parslow, 32, played in third round FA Cup ties against top-flight opponents Bolton Wanderers and Stoke City.

Last season, he played for League Two Cheltenham and was knocked out of the FA Cup at the second round stage by National League side Sutton United.

“You must not under-estimate anybody," he said. "Sutton went on to have a very good run in the FA Cup and beat teams higher-ranked than Cheltenham. But it’s all about mental preparation and, then, hopefully your performance will be good enough to get the result.

"Our first aim is to get the first round proper and then, hopefully, get to that 'magic' third round and get a big team," he added. "But South Shields is the first obstacle and hopefully we can get past that."
