Cummins hails Jameson's qualities

14th June 2019

Assistant-manager Micky Cummins has welcomed the arrival of new signing Peter Jameson - describing the former Blyth Spartans goalkeeper as 'one of the best' in the league.

Cummins also expressed delight at completing a hat-trick of signings from Blyth with Jameson following midfielder Kieran Green and striker Dan Maguire from Croft Park to Bootham Crescent.

"We believe we have done really well with our business so far - it just so happens that the three of them come from Blyth," said Cummins.

"We have watched Blyth over the last three or four years. Five (players) have gone with Alun (Armstrong) to Darlington but we have got the three we set out to get.

"Dan's a proven goalscorer, Kieran is at the early part of his career and has so much potential, and Peter has been one of the best goalkeepers in the league for the last two years.

"We have watched him progress," added Cummins. "He's commanding, he comes for crosses, he's brave, his one-on-one shot stopping is fantastic, and he's got good distribution. Coming into 'full-time' football will suit him massively and help him kick on."

Commenting on the possibility of further signings, Cummins said:  "There is still more business to be done. It is still two or three weeks before we come back for pre-season. We will address that next week."
